Hydroxycarbonsäuren (z. B. ↑ Hydroxybuttersäure) durch Mikroorganismen synthetisiert werden. P. wie Poly(3-[oder β-]hydroxybuttersäure) (R = CH3) sind als biol. abbaubare Polymere interessant.
